Happy New Year! As 2018 begins and the cold season continues, it's a great time to sip warm tea and cuddle up with a good book! Here are a few that MCN staff have enjoyed in 2017 and into the new year:

Karen, CEO, offered up “The Newcomers [2],” by Helen Thorpe, which follows twenty-two refugee teenagers as they navigate high school in Colorado.
Amelia's Road

For those cuddling up with children or grandchildren, MCN staff had a few titles to grab at the library. Jessica, Fundraising and Foundation Relations Associate, shared “Amelia’s Road [3],” about a young farmworker girl’s experience as a migrant.
Growing Up with Tamales/Los Tamales de Ana

Alma, Health Network Associate, recommended “Growing Up with Tamales/Los Tamales de Ana [4],” a bilingual children’s book about growing up, sibling love, and Christmas tamales.
The Atlas of Beauty

Del, Director of International Projects and Emerging Issues, shared a video about the new book, “The Atlas of Beauty [5],” one photojournalist’s portraits of women from 60 countries.
Another Day, Otro Día

Claire, Writer and Editor, recommends a novel recently written by a member of our own clinical network, a health justice advocate and ESL teacher in New York State. “Another Day, Otro Día [6],” written by Kathleen Suits-Smith, explores the at times very difficult world of migrant farmworkers. (Note: This is not a book for children. It has mature situations and language.)
