To round out our celebration of National Farm Safety and Health Week, we dedicate this week’s Five on Friday blog to the health and well-being of children in agricultural settings. Here are some recommendations from our staff.
1. Tiffy, Communications and Graphic Designer, read up on how the Niños Sanos, Familia Sana [2] project, which aimed to test the effectiveness of childhood obesity prevention methods, turned into a community-wide effort and a new culture of health for families in Firebaugh, California.
2. Amy, Director of Environmental and Occupational Health, admitted her head was itchy after reading about the health dangers of an insecticide commonly used to treat lice [3], that far-too-recurrent ailment of school-aged children.
3. Theressa, Training and Technical Assistance Coordinator, forwarded the call for workshop proposals [4] for the 2016 National School-Based Health Care Convention.
4. Claire, Writer and Editor, loves seeing one of her favorite cookbook authors out in California’s fields for this New York Times piece on a longitudinal study on children’s chemical exposure [5] in the Salinas Valley.
