This quarter, Migrant Clinicians Network is hosting Li Ling, PhD, a visiting scholar focused on migrant health policy and public health in her home country of China. Dr. Ling is enjoying a multi-month stay at MCN’s main office in Austin, Texas, punctuated by short trips to MCN satellite offices in Maryland and California.
Dr. Ling comes to us from the Sun Yat-sen Center for Migrant Health Policy [2], an institute of the Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou, China. “We are very multidisciplinary, and we have the same goals as MCN, but we have given more focus to research,” Dr. Ling said. “For our center, because we work on health policy, we need to do more than just the research. We need to create a broader network with other organizations,” as MCN has, she said, with stakeholders like health centers, health departments, and migrant health-focused organizations. “That’s why I’m very interested in how MCN works, because MCN has a broad network with many different organizations.”
Dr. Ling is also a Professor of Medical Statistics and Epidemiology at the Sun Yat-sen University School of Public Health. She is the Principal Investigator of more than 40 projects funded through numerous sources. To date, Dr. Ling has published over 150 papers in domestic and international journals. Dr. Ling’s research interests include the health status of and health policy for migrant populations, statistical methodology of health administration, and epidemiology of HIV/AIDS.
Dr. Ling was introduced to MCN by Harry Zhang, PhD, a member of MCN’s External Advisory Board [3]. She will be visiting MCN through April. Dr. Ling is enjoying her stay in Austin: “Austin is a fantastic place. Everything is very lively.” She is enjoying the Austin weather, as well -- “I like it here -- sunshine every day!”
