Happy November! The kids are nursing their sugar hangovers; the stores are trying to convince you it’s almost December 25th. Take a few minutes to recuperate from one holiday before diving into the next. Here’s one way to take a break: read these five health justice-related articles that you may have missed, recommended by MCN’s staff.
Claire and Kate both shared articles about low-wage workers and the California fires. Kate sent “Farmworkers Face Daunting Health Risks In California’s Wildfires [2].” Claire forwarded on “Getty Fire: Housekeepers and Gardeners Go To Work Despite the Flames [3].”
Alma celebrated the introduction of the “Farm Workforce Modernization Act [4]” and also shared Farmworker Justice’s press release on the act [5], which would enable hundreds of thousands of farmworkers and their immediate family members to obtain a lawful immigration status and a pathway to citizenship.
Kate shared the Climate Institute’s “Eco-Anxiety: Mental Health Impacts of Environmental Disasters and Climate Change [6].”
Jillian shared the Washington Post article, “A New Clinic at Children’s National Hospital Treats Undocumented Kids with Diabetes. But They’re Hesitant to Seek Care [7].” The article references MCN’s annual clinician poll [8] (which many of our clinician blog readers took) to demonstrate that the phenomenon of patients being too fearful to seek care is a nationwide trend.
Weekly Win: Amy shared “Somali Refugee Named Director of Seattle Clinic that Cared for Her as a Child [9].”
Have a safe and healthy weekend.
