Summers in Iowa | 30 Days, 30 Clinicians

Printer-friendly version

MNC Emily Sinnwell[Editor’s Note: Happy Birthday, Migrant Clinicians Network! To celebrate our 30th anniversary this month, we are highlighting one clinician each day who has been honored in 30 Clinicians Making a Difference, in which we profile the work of 30 diverse migrant clinicians from across the country and abroad.]

For Emily Sinnwell, DNP, ARNP, FNP-BC, her busiest time of year is just around the corner.  Sinnwell works with migrant and seasonal agricultural workers for Proteus, in Iowa, and the seed corn is just now being planted, meaning that busloads of workers are coming from Mexico, while others will come singly from Texas and further south, and seasonal workers will come from local communities, all to assist in the annual rhythm of the corn: planting, detasseling, harvesting, as Sinnwell noted in her profile for 30 Clinicians Making a Difference.
But Sinnwell has kept busy during the off-season -- including joining MCN’s Nursing Education Committee.  “The Nursing Education Committee provides oversight for all of MCN's educational activities geared toward nurses,” explains Jillian Hopewell, MCN’s Director of Education and Professional Development. “As a front line provider, Emily's perspective on what nurses need is very valuable.”
Sinnwell’s profile covers her path to her current position as Bilingual Clinical Director, and to her advanced nursing degrees, starting with her work with Des Moines Catholic Worker in her teens. Read the whole profile here.
