Working with Seasonal Farmworkers in Oregon | 30 Days, 30 Clinicians

Printer-friendly version

MNC Eva Galvez [Editor’s Note: Happy Birthday, Migrant Clinicians Network! To celebrate our 30th anniversary this month, we are highlighting one clinician each day who has been honored in 30 Clinicians Making a Difference, in which we profile the work of 30 diverse migrant clinicians from across the country and abroad.]

This week, the Spring issue of Streamline was published. Arriving in the mailboxes of thousands of subscribers was the image of Eva Galvez, MD, attending to a young patient in her exam room at Virginia Garcia, in Hillsboro, Oregon. In her profile for 30 Clinicians Making a Difference, which appears in full in Streamline, Dr. Galvez describes her early years as a volunteer at a migrant health clinic, while her parents worked in fruit orchards as seasonal agricultural workers. She also dives into Virginia Garcia’s trial with Alternative Payment Methodologies, and describes her own work with the Project to Prevent and Reduce Adverse Health Effects of Pesticide Exposure on Indigenous Farmworkers.

Dr. Galvez was kind enough to participate in our video abstract of the current, chock-full issue, which features articles on Chagas disease, telehealth in primary care, and more. Check out the abstract (on the left), and read Dr. Galvez’s complete profile here.

Help us honor the work of Dr. Galvez by sharing her profile. And, make sure to check out the profiles of all 30 clinicians at the 30 Clinicians Making a Difference webpage.
