MCN’s Board of Directors: A bittersweet goodbye to outgoing members, and a hearty welcome for three new members
Tue, 06/28/2016 | by Claire Hutkins Seda
Over the weekend, Migrant Clinicians Network hosted its biannual Board of Directors in-person meeting in muggy Austin, Texas. The big news out of the meeting is the change in board members, as we welcomed three new talented and enthusiastic members, and said goodbye to three well loved and hardworking board members. Emma Zavala-Suarez, JD, Bruce Gould, MD, FACP, and Kristine McVea, MD, MPH have served on the board for numerous years, during which they have provided our organization with a stronger culture of productivity and compassion, said Karen Mountain, RN, MSN, MBA, Chief Executive Officer of MCN. They will be missed, and we thank them for lending their time and expertise to migrant health through MCN's board.
Three new board members were formally welcomed to MCN’s Board of Directors. Wilson Augustave is Senior HIV Case Manager at Finger Lakes Community Health in New York State. Eva Galvez, MD, works as a family physician with obstetrics at Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center in Hillsboro, Oregon. Marsha Griffin, MD, is a pediatrician at Brownsville Community Health Center as well as a co-founder and Director of Community for Children in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. In addition to geographical diversity, the three new members bring a wide range of experiences serving migrant patients from around the world.
Last year, all three new members were profiled as part of 30 Clinicians Making a Difference, in which we celebrated the work of 30 clinicians from around the country who have dedicated their lives to migrant health. We are thrilled to have three motivated and accomplished migrant health advocates to help lead Migrant Clinicians Network in the coming years!
