While Trump continues to dominate the headlines, migrant health advocates are hard at work preparing for the new Administration’s potential policies and actions. We at MCN are dedicated to continuing the difficult and important work to fight for health justice for the mobile poor. We continue to keep a pulse on the world of migrant health and will continue to develop and share resources and trainings for clinicians and migrant workers. What have you been reading this week? Please send us your recommendations, via Facebook or Twitter.
- Del, Director of International Projects, Research, and Development, shared a press release from the Mexican Consulate in Austin on a new MOU with Texas CASA. From the release: “Our Consular Officials have the obligation to look after and protect the best interests of children of Mexican origin, helping them to preserve their bonds with their closest kin, regardless of their migratory status.”
- Ileana, Senior Advisor for Scientific and Strategic Planning, wasn’t surprised to see who is in first place in the listing of the top 10 states with the highest uninsured rates.
- Ileana also shared this Appleseed Network resource, entitled, “Protecting Assets & Child Custody in the Face of Deportation.”
- Ed, Chief Medical Officer, celebrated the short mention of Health Network’s TBNet in the current issue of Clinical Infectious Diseases. (Find us on page 17!)
- Del sent along a notice that Gwen Ifill of PBS passed away earlier this week. We will miss her astute reporting. Here’s an interview she did over the summer on the ongoing migrant crisis in Europe.
Have a safe and healthy weekend.
