MCN stands firmly for health justice for the mobile poor. For over 30 years, we have voiced loudly and consistently the clinician’s perspective on the health needs of vulnerable populations -- and we will continue to work tirelessly for human rights, access to health care, and worker health and safety.
As an organization focused on the health needs of vulnerable populations, MCN is deeply concerned for the health and well-being of refugees and immigrants who are being denied entry into the United States based on their nationality and religion. Young children, women, and men whose lives are at risk due to war and political unrest or who hold well-founded fears of persecution must be provided with basic human rights including access to water, food, clothing, shelter, and medical care.
The topic hits particularly close to home for Ileana Maria Ponce-Gonzalez, MD, MPCH, CNC, Senior Advisor for Scientific and Strategic Planning for MCN. She came to the US to escape war in her home country of Nicaragua as a young physician. “I cannot imagine what my family would have done if the US had closed its doors,” Dr. Ponce-Gonzalez says. As clinicians serving refugees, we recognize that Dr. Ponce-Gonzalez’s story is not unique.
MCN will continue to voice that denying basic health services and health access violates basic human rights. MCN stands firmly for health justice for the mobile poor, and will continue our fight for a better world.
