This was a very busy week in the world for health justice for the mobile poor. We will be releasing a statement early next week. Many of the articles and resources we shared this week had to do with President Trump’s executive actions and recent statements, the policy implications of those actions, and the impact on the health of mobile and other underserved populations that we can expect as a result. Here, we share some stories and events that may have been overlooked during the flood of White House-related news.
- Karen, CEO, shared NACHC’s new Hispanic Advocacy Center of Excellence (HACE), which says it’s “an initiative to institutionalize grassroots advocacy at health centers by engaging Hispanic patients and community members in advocacy and giving them a role in the health center movement.”
- Amy, Director of Environmental and Occupational Health, forwarded this article from earlier this month, on AP’s tallies of 38 deaths and over 200 injuries related to migrant transportation to and from farms in the last two years.
- Ileana, Senior Advisor for Scientific and Strategic Planning, shared the CDC’s 4 Steps to Manage Your Diabetes for Life -- available in 13 languages. She also encouraged us to check out her project to reduce barriers to prenatal care for indigenous agricultural workers.
- Theressa, Training and Technical Assistance Coordinator, reminded us of the final days of open enrollment at HealthCare.gov.
- Candace, Specialist in Clinical Systems and Women’s Health, sent the “sobering story” of environmental activist Isidro Baldenegro’s murder in Mexico.
Take care, and be well. See you next week!
