Happy Valentine’s Day! We at Migrant Clinicians Network are deeply in love in health justice -- and we’ve dedicated our lives to this work, even when it’s tough. Here are a few pieces MCN staff shared this week, with a double serving of the Weekly Win to lift our spirits as we head into the weekend.
Amy shared two new pieces from the Union of Concerned Scientists: a report entitled, “Endangering Generations: How the Trump Administration’s Assault on Science Is Harming Children’s Health” and a new storybook written like a picture book for children, but is definitely not for kids, called, “Breathe In the Smog, Drink In the Lead: A Grim Scary Tale for People Who Care about Kids.”
Jess in California shared the issues brief from the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health: “US Census 2020: Engagement Opportunities for Rural Health Stakeholders.”
Karen shared the National Advisory Council on Migrant Health’s recent posting of the minutes and recommendations to Health and Human Services Secretary Azar from their most recent meeting at the end of 2019.
Amy also shared, “Migrant child died after release from detention, attorneys group alleges.”
Candace forwarded on the announcement of the upcoming six-part webinar series, “Cancer and the Environment: Science and Opportunities for Prevention,” from the Collaborative on Health and the Environment.
Weekly Win: Amy shared the good news from last week: “Largest maker of pesticide linked to brain damage in kids to stop producing chemical.”
Bonus Weekly Win: Sometimes one is not enough! Alma in Texas shared “Louisville dentist offers free services to homeless, low-income families.”
Have a safe and healthy weekend.
