This weekend, the MCN staff is gathering in Austin for our strategic planning meetings. We get a lot done over just a few days -- and, while we leave the meetings exhausted, we renew our spirits for the year to come. Watch MCN’s social media for photos from our meetings this year! While we were busy prepping for our meetings, on top of our typical workload, we still found time to share some informational and inspiring articles. Here are five of the pieces that MCN staff shared this week:
Alma in Massachusetts sent around the California Health Report piece, “Wildfires Expose Gaps in Disaster Relief for Undocumented Communities.”
Amy highlighted an opinion article written by clinicians in Florida: “Homestead Detention Center for Unaccompanied Minors Should Never Reopen.”
Theressa shared Protecting Immigrant Family’s new report, “Navigating Public Charge: Best Practices in Community Based Organizations to Mitigate Harm for the Immigrant Community.”
Amy also shared, “Migrant child died after release from detention, attorneys group alleges.”
Claire shared “New Country, Same Oppression: It’s Time to Bolster Farmworkers’ Rights,” in which an immigrant doctor of public health student reflects on farmworker rights in the US and urges researchers to help translate farmworker health research and apply it to improve farmworker health.
Weekly Win: Jess shared a timely story of people helping others in need, which reflects the step-up of support that we, too, are seeing at the border: “Asylum Seekers Receive Grassroots Aid Along the Border in Mexico.”
Have a safe and healthy weekend.
