It’s Fourth of July weekend! Please stay safe, wear your mask, and maintain physical distance -- and, if you have a few spare minutes, read these recommendations, from MCN staff:
Alma in Massachusetts shared the New York Times opinion piece, “Now Is a Time to Learn From Hispanic Americans,” about the “Hispanic Paradox”: Despite poverty and discrimination, Hispanic Americans live significantly longer than other races and ethnicities.
Kaethe mentioned the LA Times article, “Farmworkers at Central California pistachio farm strike after dozens test positive for the coronavirus.” These strikes come after many strikes and some resolution in Yakima, Washington.
Claire shared an excellent opinion piece from Andrea Caracostis, CEO of HOPE Clinic in Houston: “Stopping the COVID-19 pandemic depends on long-term funding of community health centers.”
Amy also shared, “Migrant child died after release from detention, attorneys group alleges.”
Deliana shared the efforts of businesses and individuals alike, demanding Facebook to stop hate and extremism on its platform. Here’s the ‘consumer action’ page of Stop Hate for Profit, the group organizing the effort.
Weekly Win: Candace forwarded Justice for Migrant Women’s announcement that 435,000 #masks4farmworkers are available for distribution! If your organization would like to distribute to farmworkers, fill in this form.
Have a safe and healthy weekend.
