It’s almost spring! For many of us who have been cooped up in our homes for many months, the outdoor rebirth of the year can’t come soon enough.
Claire shared a new study that shows the “chilling effect” on primary care use among patients lacking authorization to live and work in the US, associated with the increased anti-immigrant rhetoric during the 2016 presidential election: “Changes in Health Care Use Among Undocumented Patients, 2014-2018.”
Kaethe shared, ECRI’s 2021 Top 10 Patient Safety Concerns, which this year called out racial and ethnic disparities as a leading threat to patient safety and health.
Karen offered, “Virus Variants Found to be Deadlier, More Contagious; Some May Thwart Vaccines.”
Double Weekly Win: With more vaccines reaching people of color, and increased observance of COVID-19 preventative measures in the workplace, we are hopeful that the disparities in infection will decrease:
Kaethe sent in “Early COVID-19 Vaccination Efforts Through Community Health Centers Are Reaching People of Color.”
Amy celebrated OSHA’s announcement that it is beginning enforcement to protect workers from COVID-19, including inspections to follow complaints at highly hazardous workplaces like in poultry plants.
Have a safe and healthy weekend!
