Five on Friday: National Nurses Week

Happy National Nurses Week! Nurses have been on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic for over a year. We are grateful for their ongoing contributions, their care for the most vulnerable during a terrifying time, their strength to persevere despite the dangers and uncertainties, their willingness to keep coming back to help even more people. Please, thank a nurse in your life this week! On to Five on Friday – five articles shared among the MCN staff this week, that we found helpful to keep up in our work in health justice.

Laz shared the MedPage Today article, “Here's Who Might Want to Avoid the J&J COVID Shot.” (Be sure to read MCN’s take on the J&J specifically for migrant women here.)

President Biden giving a speech

Weekly Win: Two pieces of good news to celebrate relating to our work out of the White House this week – Biden raised the refugee admission cap to 62,500, reversing the Trump-era low of 15,000, as Kaethe shared on Monday. Just a few days later, Biden signaled his support of the WTO waiver of intellectual property rights for the COVID-19 vaccines, as Amy shared. Both these moves will have positive impacts on the health of some of the most vulnerable among us.

Have a safe and healthy weekend!
