Friday is finally here! Lots of diverse articles were shared among MCN staff this week. Here’s a selection that we wanted to share with our readers.
Claire shared a JAMA perspective reviewing the important Nature Medicine study that examines the risk of cardiovascular events after COVID infection. The COVID Heart—One Year After SARS-CoV-2 Infection, Patients Have an Array of Increased Cardiovascular Risks
Ed forwarded on an opinion piece that gives a clearer picture of the oft-scrambled COVID data, but the author reminds us, “’they died with Covid, not of Covid’ has been a rallying cry of Coronavirus sceptics throughout the pandemic, and – most of the time – has been completely untrue. As we’ve seen, in Denmark in the first two waves, 90% of people who died after a positive test for Covid-19 were killed by Covid-19.” Why Denmark’s Covid Deaths and Hospitalizations Are Going Up after It Lifts All Pandemic Restrictions
Kaethe offered up the Guardian article, Black-Led Urban Farms Are Thriving – Until They Have to Fight for Their Land
Marysel forwarded on news about a recent migration attempt from Haiti to Puerto Rico that tragically resulted in nine babies’ deaths at sea. She says, “Puerto Rico has been experiencing an increase of arrivals by boat from different countries nearby. We are deeply saddened by this and hopeful that as an organization we can be supportive to our communities and health centers responding to this event.” She shared this video in Spanish; we also offer article in English. Tragedia en viaje ilegal de Haití a Puerto Rico: “Tiraron a todos los bebés en el mar”
Weekly Win: ICYMI, a federal appeals court ruling ends the unlawful and immoral use of Title 42 to deny asylum seekers! An Appeals Ruling Bars the US from Expelling Any Endangered Migrant Families on Public Health Grounds.
Have a safe and healthy weekend!
