It's Friday! Let's jump into MCN staff members’ inboxes to pick up some health news that we may have missed. And, with the world as it presently is, we offer up a double weekly win to soothe our collective nerves.
Amy forwarded the grim assessment from the latest IPCC report, but, as this news article reminds us, we have the solutions ready to go to shift our climate path toward a healthier future – we just need the political and personal will to implement them. Climate Change Is Killing People, But There's Still Time to Reverse the Damage
Kaethe shared an excellent op-ed in STAT News that explains how asylum seekers are being unfairly denied entry to the US under Title 42. To Restore Public Trust, the CDC Must Stop Legitimizing the Expulsion of Asylum Seekers
Did those last two articles make your heart beat faster? And we didn't even mention the war in Ukraine or COVID! Candace comes in just in time with the Washington Post article: 16 Ways to Take Care of Yourself Through Hard Times
Weekly Win: Not all the news is bad! Brenda shared the uplifting news that the Department of Homeland Security issued a notice to change the wording to public charge rules that will allow immigrants to accept Medicaid and SNAP when they are eligible without jeopardizing their future immigration status changes including applying for permanent residence. This is still a proposed rule, and related lawsuits are still working through the Supreme Court, but it's a huge step in the right direction! The New Public Charge Standard Will No Longer Penalize Medicaid and SNAP Recipients
Weekly Win: Thanks in part to MCN's Alma Galván, the one-hour documentary Trusted Messenger is now available in Spanish, as Voces de confianza! This excellent piece is a tribute to clinicians and community leaders who have helped their communities through misinformation and fear and toward vaccination. It's excellent! Hope you watch it this weekend!
Have a safe and healthy weekend!
