Farmworker Justice Annual Award Reception

In 2012, we will present awards to the following individuals for their contributions in the quest for farmworker justice:

Farmworker Justice Award

Barry Estabrook is the author of Tomatoland, How Modern Industrial Agriculture Destroyed Our Most Alluring Fruit.  The book examines the Florida tomato industry, highlighting farmworkers and their (mis)treatment including the organizing efforts of the Coalition of Immokalee Workers.  Formerly a contributing editor at Gourmet, he writes for numerous magazines and online publications and has twice won the prestigious James Beard Foundation Award for journalism.  

The Shelley Davis Award

José Padilla, Executive Director, California Rural Legal Assistance (CRLA) was born and raised in California near the Mexican border to a family with farmworker roots. He began his legal career and in 1984 was named Executive Director to CRLA, one of the most effective legal advocacy organizations in the nation, bringing justice to the fields and helping to build vibrant rural communities. 

Hors d’oeuvres and beverages, including socially responsible wines, will be served.
