The societal costs of unaddressed trauma are high. Communities across the nation are beginning to realize the impact of trauma on our well-being. Trauma has now become a public health priority. While the research is quick to identify the potential negative outcomes on physical and mental health, we are learning that promoting resilience and using a trauma-informed approach help to mitigate the impact, enhance outcomes, and contribute to improved health. This presentation, will explain how to add a trauma lens to patient evaluation and management, differentiate between a conventional and trauma informed approach, increase your awareness and provide tools for managing secondary trauma, as well as provide tips for implementing the principles of trauma informed care in your setting.
