Chronic kidney disease (CKD) affects about 11% of the U.S. population, yet knowledge about this chronic condition is poor among patients. This may be due to lack of discussions about kidney disease, suboptimal educational materials about CKD, and suboptimal self-management support programs/strategies available for patients. We will review the data in this field and discuss potential strategies to improve awareness and self-management support among patients.
