Jimena De Leija was born in Tamaulipas, Mexico and lived there 10 years before moving and being raised in border town Brownsville, Texas. She recently graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor’s degree on International Relations and Global Studies and a certificate for Business in Spanish. De Leija is passionate about social justice, particularly about assisting the Mexican community in receiving fair and just treatment. She began as an intern for Migrant Clinicians Network. Now, as MCN’s Health Promotor in the Ventanilla de Salud located at the Mexican Consulate in Austin, she gets to guide the community to appropriate health information and services along with an open door for any other information required. In her free time she enjoys reading, writing, and exploring Austin. De Leija hopes to keep on learning and educating herself on ways to create a caring world.
