Nahiely “Pinky” Garcia graduated from the University of Texas, Rio Grande Valley with a Bachelor’s of Science in Criminal Justice and a minor in Mexican-American Studies. She served as her Graduation’s Class “Bell Ringer” in 2017, an honor given to graduating students who have been actively involved in student-life initiatives, have demonstrated academic excellence, and embody the honor code. Garcia, known as Pinky by her community and friends, has always been involved in extracurricular activities in and out of school because she enjoys helping. Garcia is a Dreamer, and a victim and immigrant advocate, who seeks daily growth on knowledge and spirituality. In 2016, she was bestowed the Sargent Shriver Youth Warriors Against Poverty Award and received a nomination for the “RGV Citizen of the Year Award” in 2017 for her volunteer and community activism and service. Garcia is the founder of the community-based organization, Strides For Fany / Ascensos Por Fany, which she launched in 2014 in honor of her sister and baby nephew whom she lost due to a homicide. She aspires to do more for her community and is excited to be part of MCN as a Health Network Associate.
