Before we head off to the creek to claim a shady spot, we’d like to offer our weekly rundown of news and insights from the world of migrant health, courtesy of MCN staff members.

Today, as every day, two Latino workers will die in the US as a result of work-related injuries or illnesses. These deaths are largely preventable. Thousands of workers will die this year, on farms, on fishing boats, at construction sites, in transportation, all over America.  

This week, we at Migrant Clinicians Network posted our Health Justice Plan for 2016, which outlines MCN’s advocacy priorities for the year. Our outlined priorities advance health justice for the mobile poor within the arenas of human rights and immigration, access to health care, and worker health and safety. This year’s priorities include:

Last week, several staff members of Migrant Clinicians Network headed up to Portland, Oregon, for the 2016 Western Forum for Migrant and Community Health. Karen Mountain, RN, MSN, MBA, the Chief Executive Officer for Migrant Clinicians Network was particularly taken by a poem that was read aloud by Dr. Tina Castaneres, a local Oregon doctor and longtime friend of MCN.
