Here we are in the final days of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, during which editorial pages around the country gave some light to the topic we as a society spend a lot of time ignoring.  But one critical angle was missing. Here, we won't focus on the one in five -- although we actively work to combat that shockingly high number of women who have been raped in the US.

This week’s Five on Friday exposes the many fronts on which the struggle for migrant justice is fought: in detention centers, in health centers, in government offices. Here are the top five recommendations from Migrant Clinicians Network’s staff. What did you see this week that impacts mobile workers?

This week, Homero Segovia, Migrant Clinicians Network’s Health Network Associate, tragically lost his life in a car accident. We at Migrant Clinicians Network struggled to keep working with the weight of this massive loss upon us. The trouble is, the work keeps piling up; all the momentum in the world of health justice hasn’t stopped (which, we know, is a positive thing). Next week, we will offer a blog post to commemorate Homero and his work at MCN.

Labor Day: Double issue!

One of the best ways we can honor our country’s workforce is to stay informed on the many issues that affect their health and safety. This Friday, we commemorate the millions of hardworking migrants in our country with a Labor Day Double Issue of Five on Friday. That’s right -- ten articles, calls to action, research papers, webinar announcements and more, all recommended by MCN staff to help keep you updated in the world of migrant health.

Across the country, the harvest season is in full swing: farmworkers are shaking the almond trees in California, raking the blueberries in Maine, and harvesting the wheat and barley in Minnesota.
