Behavioral Health

Malama I Ke Ola Health Center (formerly Community Clinic of Maui)

Their Story:

The Community Clinic of Maui has a fully integrated behavioral health and primary care system. At each of the clinic’s three sites there are behavioral health providers who are available to the primary care clinicians to assist in a vast number of activities including “warm handoffs” for acute behavioral health crisis; substance abuse counseling both individual and group settings; tobacco cessation counseling; chronic disease self management counseling and long term individual and family therapy. Most remarkable is the organization’s emphasis on tobacco cessation counseling. They currently have a “full time” tobacco cessation specialist and 3 of their other behavioral health therapists have been credentialed to provide tobacco cessation counseling.
