National Public Health Week 2008

In 1995, former President William Jefferson Clinton proclaimed the first full week of April as National Public Health Week (NPHW). Each year since then, the public health community has celebrated this observance by focusing on an issue that is important to improving the public's health.

National Minority Health Awareness Month

OMH invites State and local governments and offices of minority health to organize events and put forth proclamations to bring due attention to this issue of minority health awareness. The mission of the Office of Minority Health (OMH) is to improve and protect the health of racial and ethnic minority populations through the development of health policies and programs that will eliminate health disparities.

Cancer Control Month

During Cancer Control Month, we honor cancer victims and survivors, raise awareness of the impact cancer has on our citizens, and underscore our commitment to battling this deadly disease.

American Diabetes Alert Day

The American Diabetes Alert Day is a one-day, “wake-up” call to inform the American public about the seriousness of diabetes. The American Diabetes Association encourages people to take the Diabetes Risk Test and find out if they are at risk for developing diabetes.

National Poison Prevention Week

Established to provide public information about the events associated with National Poison Prevention Week, the steps that you can take to help prevent accidental poisonings and tips for promoting community involvement in poison prevention.

National Inhalants and Poisons Awareness Week

Prevention through education has proven to work against this popular form of substance abuse. This is why the National Inhalant Prevention Coalition has developed National Inhalants & Poisons Awareness Week (NIPAW), an annual media-based, community-level program that takes place the third week in March. NIPAW is designed to increase understanding about the use and risks of inhalant involvement. It is an inclusive program that involves youth, schools, media, police departments, health organization, civics groups and more.

National Patient Safety Awareness Week

The National Patient Safety Foundation is an independent not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization that has been diligently pursuing one mission since its founding in 1997 – to improve the safety of patients. A decade later, NPSF remains the sole organization in the field with this singular focus.

NPSF also occupies a unique position in this field by virtue of its inclusive, multi-stakeholder approach. From the composition of its Board to the structure of its programs, NPSF fosters collaboration on the issue of patient safety.

Workplace Eye Health and Safety Month

Since 1908, Prevent Blindness America has been the nation's leading volunteer eye health and safety organization with the sole mission of preventing blindness and preserving sight.
