Valentine's Week Round-Up

Happy Friday! Here are some articles, talks, and resources that caught the eye of MCN employees this week. We hope you enjoy them as much as we did.

From Charlotte, Development Coordinator: Here's a video interview with Dr. Selwyn Rogers, who is a part of MCN's External Advisory Board. Watch it to learn of his journey to medicine and reflections on health disparities in our health care system. It was taped as he was leaving Brigham and Women's to go to Temple University.

Just in time for Valentine’s Day weekend, Charlotte also passed along a Prevent Cancer Foundation’s campaign, Check Your Mate, which encourages partners to check each other for early prevention of cancer: “Early detection of some cancers doesn’t seem to fit into the equation of romance but it can,” says PCF’s website. Their campaign also features some fun and a bit risqué eCards to send a partner or share on social media… Might not be appropriate to view at some work settings, but we think most clinicians will enjoy it!

Kerry, Environmental and Occupational Health Program Associate, encourages everyone to send a Valentine to the EPA’s Gina McCarthy, to encourage the EPA to implement the proposed changes to the Worker Protection Standard.

From Jillian, Director of Education and Professional Development: Here's a well-done article that profiles Emma Torres and the CHW program in Arizona. 

Del, Director of International Research and Development, presented a webinar on HIV and migrant workers this week, which is now archived and ready to view.

From Theressa, Training and Technical Assistance Coordinator: New resources from the Million Hearts initiative! Reminder: February is Heart Health Month! 

Ricardo, Health Network Manager, sent us several stories to review this week. First up, a TED talk on early cancer detection through international collaboration, with Jorge Soto. Ricardo also sent along an interesting perspective on Cuba’s health care system. And last, but not least: American Experience showed a documentary on Tuberculosis on Tuesday night. Here is a small clip.
