MCN 30 CliniciansWow, we’ve had a very busy week here at Migrant Clinicians Network. We published an Op-Ed in the Sacramento Bee in honor of World TB Day, and we launched 30 Clinicians Making a Difference, to celebrate our 30th anniversary, and to coincide with Farmworker Awareness Week… But there’s still so much more! Here are some other great pieces  -- news articles, new resources, policy updates, and professional opportunities -- that we’d like to share with you. Have a great weekend!

Ed, our Chief Medical Officer, sent to our Health Network associates this web course from the CDC entitled, “TB 101 para trabajadores de la salud,” a Spanish-language translation of the CDC’s TB 101 for Health Care Workers online course.

Amy, Director of Environmental and Occupational Health, sent along this article about the announcement by the International Agency for Research on Cancer that glyphosate, the active ingredient in the weedkiller Round Up, has been listed as a probable carcinogen. Kerry, Environmental and Occupational Health Program Associate, followed it up with another article, which starts out, “This has not been a good week for glyphosate.” It goes on to detail a study linking glyphosate and two other widely-used pesticides -- 2,4-D and dicamba -- to antibiotic resistance, which has widespread implications on backyard gardeners, farmworkers, and bees.

Immigration DataHugo, from our Board of Directors, forwarded on this perspective paper, entitled “Health Care for Immigrants -- Implications of Obama’s Executive Action,” published in the 3/26/15 version of the New England Journal of Medicine.

Tiffy, our graphic designer, found this “amazing data visualization of 200 years of U.S. immigration.”

Jillian, Director of Education and Professional Development, noted Farmworker Justice’s weekly immigration update, which you can receive in your inbox or view on their blog.

Know someone who wants to get into outreach? Ricardo, Health Network Manager, saw that Health Network partners Maine Migrant Health Program has posted about a new position as part of their Outreach Team.

Our CEO Karen shared a news update on the “fiscal cliff.”

Oral HealthCandace,  Specialist in Clinical Systems and Women’s Health, offered a few great resources, as she does every week. She noted that the NURSE Corps Scholarship Program application cycle is now open and will close on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at 7:30pm, ET. This Program assists students completing their nursing education by paying tuition, fees, other education costs, while providing a monthly living stipend.

Candace also sent on a press release from the International Council of Nurses for World TB Day -- we really enjoyed the fabulous photos of TB nurses from around the world.

Elisa, Continuing Education Assistant, put up a new resource on our resources page, an Oral Health Toolkit from the Oral Health Nursing Education and Practice program

Hope these links are a great start to your weekend. Don’t forget to check back often for more blog posts.
