mcn health network news five on friday

High fives all around -- we made it to another weekend! Before you grab the sunglasses, hat, and sunblock (with a SPF 30 or higher, right?), take a look at the top five reads from Migrant Clinicians Network staff. Here’s what was floating around our inboxes this week. What was in yours? Share with us on Facebook or Twitter.

  1. Jillian, Director of Education and Professional Development, recommends “What will happen to the UK's European farm workers?” which examines immigrant concerns after Brexit.

  2. Ricardo, Health Network Manager, forwarded on this Al Jazeera 15-minute-long segment on La Isla Foundation’s work to combat the epidemic of chronic kidney disease of nontraditional causes in Central America.

  3. Karen, Chief Executive Officer, forwarded on the press release on Fiscal Year 2017 Labor, Health and Human Services Funding Bill -- which includes $6.1 billion allocated for HRSA.

  4. Kerry, Environmental and Occupational Health Manager, recommends this Univision segment on the mental health of families who lack documentation.

  5. Claire, Writer and Editor, recommends reading up on this remarkable consensus statement by Project TENDR (Targeting Environmental Neuro-Developmental Risks): “Widespread exposures to toxic chemicals in our air, water, food, soil, and consumer products can increase the risks for cognitive, behavioral, or social impairment, as well as specific neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. This preventable threat results from a failure of our industrial and consumer markets and regulatory systems to protect the developing brain from toxic chemicals.”  (There’s also a New York Times article on the statement and on the Obama Administration’s recent overhaul of federal chemical rules.)

Have a safe and healthy weekend! (Don’t forget the sunblock!)
