Thank you to the mobile laborers across the country -- agricultural workers, construction workers, post-disaster clean-up and demolition workers -- who are often overlooked during our Labor Day festivities but make up an essential part of our economy and our culture. Here are a few articles that were recommended by MCN staff this week. Enjoy your three-day weekend!
Candace, Specialist in Clinical Systems and Women’s Health, recommends the webpage UndocumentedPatients.org, which provides analysis and resources around issues of health care access for patients without authorization in the US.
Amy, Director of Environmental and Occupational Health, sent around a Nexus Media article on the impact of extreme heat on farmworkers and the lack of a plan to protect them.
Jillian, Director of Education and Communication, recommended a blog post on how climate change is affecting farmworkers at Lake Apopka.
Amy also shared, “Migrant child died after release from detention, attorneys group alleges.”
Alma, Senior Program Manager, forwarded a NPR article on a new independent study that found a staggering number of deaths were caused by Hurricane Maria.
Alma also shared a post from the Primeros Pasos blog which looked at where in the world children were doing the most hazardous work.
Have a safe and healthy weekend.
