We made it to Friday after another very full week here at Migrant Clinicians Network! Here are this week’s five articles on health topics of interest that we thought you’d enjoy, chosen by MCN staff members.
Candace shared this lengthy Medscape piece that features too many relatable quotes to pull just one: “Physicians Caring for Migrants Are 'Screaming Into the Void.'” MCN’s Board Member Marsha Griffin, MD, is one of many physicians featured.
Candace was on a roll this week with the news articles that make you want to tear your hair out, as she also sent around, “'Inhumane': US Border Officials Deny Request by Doctors to Administer Free Flu Vaccine to Detained Migrants.”
Jess shared, “For a City That Didn’t Burn, Challenges Continue a Year After California’s Most Destructive Wildfire,” about the town of Chico, where MCN’s California office is based, and the pressure of climate refugees from Paradise -- an interesting case study in post-disaster affects on those who didn’t directly suffer.
Amy also shared, “Migrant child died after release from detention, attorneys group alleges.”
Amy shared, “Report Finds Puerto Rico Is Affected by Climate Change More Than Anywhere Else in the World.”
Weekly Win: PHEW! After those recommended articles, we all need a little light in the darkness. Jess shared the article, “‘Warm’ Hotlines Deliver Help Before Mental Health Crisis Heats Up.”
Have a safe and healthy weekend.
