Winter is here at last! This weekend, we finally slip out of fall and into the longest night of the year. As the cold, dark days unfold, we turn to issues of environmental and migrant health that roar on even during the shortest days of the year. We’re grateful to all of you, MCN readers and supporters, for your unceasing work to serve the health needs of migrants and other underserved people.
Laz forwarded this opinion article on service to others this holiday season, saying: “Christmas spirit, the Peace Corps, Global Health, service to others...I am all in!”
Candace shared a follow-up article to her submission to last week’s Five on Friday about doctors attempting to provide flu shots to detained migrants: Doctors Arrested for Protesting Flu Shot Policy for Migrants.
Jillian sent, “Fatal Crash Shines Light on Immigrants Who Do Majority of the Work in Oregon’s $121m Christmas Tree Industry.”
Amy also shared, “Migrant child died after release from detention, attorneys group alleges.”
Amy shared the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ newly released “National Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries in 2018.”
Weekly Win: Ed (who lives in New York State) shared the good news: “Governor Cuomo Directs DEC to Ban the Use of Chlorpyrifos.”
Have a safe and healthy weekend.
