Some of our MCN staff have already headed out the door for a longer Independence Day weekend. As we slice wedges of watermelon and shuck the corn on the cob this weekend, let’s take a moment to consider the hundreds of people tending the fields in hot conditions through the holiday weekend to fill our plates, most of whom are immigrants to the US. We believe in our country and our ability to provide health justice for all. As we continue to fight for health justice, we send our gratitude to our clinical network for their dedication to people who are often overlooked. Here are five recommendations from MCN staff that were shared in the last two weeks. We hope they aid you in your work in health justice.
Alma forwarded the NBC News piece, “Without swift action on climate change, heat waves could kill thousands in US cities,” which begins, “If global warming sometimes seems like a distant or abstract threat, new research casts the phenomenon in stark, life-or-death terms.”
Alma also sent, “For Those Missing Puerto Rico, A Song About Dreaming Of Home.”
Del sent around the newly updated fact sheet from the American Immigration Council, “An Overview of US Refugee Law and Policy.”
Amy also shared, “Migrant child died after release from detention, attorneys group alleges.”
Jillian shared a recent Conversations on Health Care podcast episode, entitled, “Mass Medical Society's Dr. Alain Chaoui on Joint Harvard Study on the Crisis of Physician Burnout.”
Karen shared the National Advisory Council on Migrant Health’s call for five migrant health center patient board members for upcoming vacancies.
Have a safe and healthy weekend.
