Pride Month is coming to a close. While we celebrate the recent Supreme Court decision that protects LGBTQ+ workers, the National Association of Community Health Centers noted in their recent Washington Update that a newly finalized rule change by Health and Human Services “eliminates some of the nondiscrimination protections in health care and coverage” -- a reminder that we still have a long way to go. Thank you to our advocates and hard-working clinicians for your ongoing and much-needed efforts to drive forward for change! Here are five reads from MCN staff that we shared this week in the world of health justice.
Karen noted, “When your governor is a physician...”: “Virginia Poised to Create First Pandemic Workplace Safety Mandates in Nation, as Trump Labor Agency Sits on Sidelines.”
Candace shared the JAMA Network Open review of literature, “Association of Air Pollution and Heat Exposure With Preterm Birth, Low Birth Weight, and Stillbirth in the US: A Systematic Review.”
Kaethe forwarded on, “Trump Freezes Green Cards, Many Work Visas Until End Of Year.”
Amy also shared, “Migrant child died after release from detention, attorneys group alleges.”
Jillian sent around, “Latino Leaders Demand Florida Governor Apologize for Linking 'Hispanic Farmworkers' to COVID-19 Rise.”
Weekly Win: Claire shared the article featuring colorful posters, “Designed to Save Lives: Artists Craft Coronavirus Messaging for Underserved Communities.”
Have a safe and healthy weekend.
