Another week is behind us, and another weekend is in sight. Before you head out the door, take a look at the five recommended pieces that MCN staff shared with each other this week. As always, one is a Weekly Win. We hope they are valuable in your own work in health justice.
Kaethe highly recommended this article: “House Committee Spars Over High Maternal Mortality in Black Women— Racism in the Healthcare System Seen as Large Part of the Problem.”
While small, this trial on patients receiving COVID-19 shots by different manufacturers caught Laz's attention: “Any adverse reactions were short lived, with no other safety concerns,” says “Covid Vaccines: Mixing Increases Reports of Mild Side-Effects.”
Theressa offered up the announcement of the opening of applications the Emergency Broadband Benefit Program to help households struggling to afford internet service during the pandemic. You can promote it through this social media toolkit.
Myrellis "found this really interesting 30-minute podcast episode talking about vaccine hesitancy among a rural community in Tennessee,” which sparked lots of conversation among staff members.
Weekly Win: Kaethe also forwarded on this article on the reintroduction of the HEAL for Immigrant Families Act, which would remove “barriers to health care for immigrants amidst a devastating public health crisis that has disproportionately impacted immigrants working on the frontlines of this pandemic,” as stated in, “Booker, Jayapal, Introduce Urgent Legislation to Expand Health Care to Immigrants.” We will be watching its progression closely!
Have a safe and healthy weekend!
