MCN Five on Friday

Happy Anniversary, Five on Friday! For the last two years, we have opened up our inboxes to share with you the many useful new resources, pertinent news items, and entertaining podcasts that relate to health justice for the mobile poor. We hope you’ve enjoyed reading this each week as much as we’ve enjoyed compiling it! Keep sending us your own recommendations… and enjoy your weekend.

  1. Jessica, Grant Writer: “Some remarkably good public health news: Researchers may have found the tools to stop cholera.”

  2. Ricardo, Health Network Manager, shared new research that concludes: “Data on older Medicare patients admitted to hospital in the US showed that patients treated by international graduates had lower mortality than patients cared for by US graduates.”

  3. Candace, Specialist in Clinical Systems and Women’s Health, notes this loan may be especially of interest to clinicians in Puerto Rico: “Health care providers can receive up to $70,000 in exchange for a three-year commitment at NHSC-approved sites as they work to address the health effects and risks associated with Zika.”

  4. Amy, Director of Environmental and Occupational Health, shared this piece from NPR’s Morning Edition: “CDC Seeks Controversial New Quarantine Powers To Stop Outbreaks.”

  5. Amy also shared “Farmworkers’ perceived discrimination affects work experience, injury treatment.” The conclusions about farmworker perceptions around safety are similar to those of MCN’s own research on the topic, she noted.

Have a safe and healthy weekend!
